Why gloss finishes fail the north-facing winter specification
Gloss lacquered shutters are specified for their visual impact under normal to high light conditions. In a showroom, under 500–800 lux of overhead light, a gloss finish is objectively superior: the colour is brighter, the detail sharper, the reflection cleaner.

Can we upgrade a high-gloss shutter to matte gloss after handover?

Does matte gloss cost more than high gloss?
No. The cost difference is negligible—typically 2–4% of the shutter price. The labour to achieve matte gloss is actually slightly less than high gloss because the micro-texture is easier to control during the lacquer cure. There is no financial barrier to specifying matte gloss; the barrier is information.
Will matte gloss show scratches or wear marks?
Matte gloss shows micro-scratches less visibly than high gloss because the texture diffuses light. However, deep scratches (from sharp objects or abrasion) will be visible on both finishes. In normal domestic use, matte-gloss shutters show negligible wear over five years. In high-traffic or commercial applications, high gloss is more resistant to visible micro-scratching.

Request a 300 x 300mm matte-gloss colour sample from the atelier and view it in your project's actual light condition—ideally at the site, on the north-facing wall where the wardrobe will be fitted, at the time of day when the wardrobe will receive most of its light. This is the only way to confirm that the finish and colour specification are aligned with the light condition. Do not rely on showroom samples or shop drawings under artificial light.
