Next, calculate the weight of each component: glass (density 2.5 kg/m³ for tempered), frame (aluminium density 2.7 kg/m³, adjusted for profile cross-section), hardware (obtain from the slider supplier), and any applied finish. Add a 10% contingency for installation fasteners and sealant. The total must not exceed 85% of the hinge rating. This leaves a safety margin for dynamic load and environmental factors.

Patterns and the aesthetic-load trade-off

In new construction, a heavier hinge is viable if the frame is designed for it from the outset.
